Chey Taewon and Noh Soyoung Divorce Property Division Retrial Sent to Mediation

The retrial for the division of assets in the divorce case between Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, and No Soyoung, Director of Art Center Nabi, will enter a mediation process.

According to the legal community on April 17, the Seoul High Court's Family Division 1 (Presiding Judge Lee Sang-joo) has scheduled a mediation session for the two parties on May 13. This procedure resumes about four months after the first hearing of the retrial in January 2024.

The main issues in this mediation are expected to be whether the court recognizes the contribution of the slush fund associated with former President Roh Tae-woo, and the specific amount to be divided accordingly, in line with the Supreme Court's order for retrial.

Previously, in the second trial in May 2024, the court ordered Chairman Chey to pay 1.3808 trillion won to Director No. However, in October last year, the Supreme Court returned the case to the Seoul High Court, stating, "Even if 30 billion won in slush funds was received, it constitutes illegal funds and cannot be recognized as a contribution." Nevertheless, the Supreme Court finalized that Chairman Chey must pay 2 billion won in compensation for mental distress.
