A worker in his 60s, assigned to regular maintenance work at a chemical plant within the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in South Jeolla Province, fell and is in critical condition.
According to the Yeosu Fire Station and other sources, at around 4:20 p.m. on April 17, an employee of a partner company, identified as Mr. B (in his 60s), fell from a height equivalent to about two stories to the ground while working on a major plant turnaround (TA) at Plant A in the Yeosu Industrial Complex.
Mr. B had just finished assisting with welding work and was moving when the accident occurred. He was found at the scene in a state of cardiac arrest. Emergency responders performed CPR and other first aid measures before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, it was reported that his pulse returned before arriving at the hospital.
The plant stated that Mr. B was on-site for regular maintenance work at the time of the accident, and that he appears to have fallen after missing his footing while moving.
The police and labor authorities are summoning company officials to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident, and are also focusing on whether safety regulations were properly followed at the worksite.
