Large-scale support from private companies for the families of fire officials in Wando, Jeollanam-do, who lost their lives in the line of duty, is now being launched in earnest.

Atomy will provide long-term assistance totaling 2 billion won, which will cover consolation money, self-reliance support, and emergency relief.

On April 17, Atomy announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the "Fallen Fire Officials' Family Support Project" with the Hope Sharing for Firefighter Families Foundation during the "Orrot Success Academy" event.

This agreement was established in response to the need for continuous and systematic support for the families of fire officials who died in the line of duty, including those who lost their lives in the Wando-gun cold storage warehouse fire in Jeollanam-do on April 12.

Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly promote the following: providing consolation payments to bereaved families; support for children's tuition and marriage expenses; tailored assistance such as living expenses and medical costs; and projects to improve the welfare of fire officials.

Based on a total fund of 2 billion won, Atomy plans to support the stabilization and recovery of bereaved families’ lives, and will also establish a separate emergency relief fund to respond immediately in the event of future fatalities.

Chairman Hangil Park stated, "The responsibility for fire officials and their families who sacrificed themselves to protect the lives and safety of the public is one that must be borne by society as a whole," adding, "We will continue to offer support that provides meaningful help."

Hyunsook Park, CEO of Hope Sharing for Firefighter Families, said, "A sustainable support system is more important than anything," and pledged to "strengthen cooperation to ensure a stable life for bereaved families."

Meanwhile, last year Atomy donated 10 billion won to support victims of wildfires in the Yeongnam region, recording the largest single disaster relief donation amount ever in Korea.

Furthermore, over the past three years, Atomy’s donation ratio averaged 1.9% of its annual sales, which is 30 times higher than the distribution industry average. As of 2024, the ratio remains at 2.25%, maintaining the highest level even when compared to Korea’s top 500 companies.
