The KOSPI closed lower, pressured by net selling from foreign investors.
On April 17, the KOSPI finished trading at 6,191.92, down 34.13 points (0.55%) from the previous day. Trading volume was 680.21 million shares, and the provisional trading value was 22.8306 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and individuals net bought 150.2 billion won and 1.4459 trillion won, respectively, while foreign investors net sold 2.0026 trillion won. In the futures market, institutions net sold 135.9 billion won, whereas foreign investors and individuals net bought 75.8 billion won and 67.8 billion won, respectively. Program trading saw net selling of 3.1 billion won in arbitrage trades and 1.7102 trillion won in non-arbitrage trades.
Performance by sector was mixed. Medical precision rose by 2.11%, telecommunications by 1.78%, metals by 0.77%, real estate by 0.65%, chemicals by 0.4%, textiles and apparel by 0.38%, electricity and gas by 0.29%, and food, beverage, and tobacco by 0.11%. In contrast, paper and wood fell by 2.15%, recreation and culture by 1.45%, insurance by 1.11%, securities by 1.01%, IT services by 1.01%, non-metallic minerals by 0.89%, electrical and electronics by 0.79%, and transportation and warehousing by 0.65%.
Among large-cap stocks, performance was also mixed. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix declined by 0.69% and 2.34%, respectively. SK Square fell by 1.16%, Samsung Biologics by 0.93%, Hanwha Aerospace by 6.32%, Doosan Enerbility by 2.08%, and Samsung Life Insurance by 1.74%. On the other hand, Hyundai Motor rose by 0.75%, LG Energy Solution by 0.48%, Kia by 0.82%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by 4.15%, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics by 6.26%.
The number of advancing stocks was 466, while 390 stocks declined, and 50 remained unchanged. Two stocks hit the upper price limit.
The KOSDAQ index closed higher. On this day, the KOSDAQ index ended trading at 1,170.04, up 7.07 points (0.61%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions, foreign investors, and individuals all showed net buying of 9.1 billion won, 3.6 billion won, and 2.1 billion won, respectively.
Among large-cap KOSDAQ stocks, more declined than rose. Alteogen fell by 0.95%, Rainbow Robotics by 0.16%, Samchundang Pharm by 3.86%, Kolon TissueGene by 1.75%, ABL Bio by 1.46%, HLB by 1.57%, Legochem Biosciences by 0.3%, and Peptron by 1.49%. In contrast, Ecopro and Ecopro BM rose by 1.81% and 1.46%, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,483.5 won, up 4.3 won from the previous day.
