"Filmed Female Colleague's Body for Two Days"... Ex-Education Office Superintendent Illegally Recorded 41 People with 'Restroom Spy Camera'

Illegal Filming Also Occurred During Office of Education Training Sessions

It has been revealed that a former superintendent from the Chungbuk Office of Education, who installed a hidden camera in the restroom of a restaurant where a department dinner was held, also placed cameras in a female relative’s home and in the women’s dormitory at a training facility.

According to Yonhap News on April 17, the former superintendent, referred to as A, installed a camera in the women’s dormitory at a training facility earlier this year while attending training, and illegally filmed a colleague’s body over a two-day period. It was also reported that A carried out illegal filming for several days in the restroom of a relative’s home using the same method.

The investigation found that from January 3 to February 25, A illegally filmed the bodies of a total of 41 people at six locations, including two public restrooms at restaurants. A total of 47 illegal recordings were discovered on four miniature cameras used in the crimes. On the previous day, prosecutors indicted the former superintendent under detention on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, including filming with a camera and trespassing into multi-use facilities for sexual purposes.

Previously, in February, the former superintendent was booked without detention on suspicion of installing a lighter-shaped miniature camera in the public restroom of a restaurant in Cheongju visited for a department farewell party, and filming the bodies of customers. A was caught in the act and arrested by the police who responded to a customer’s report.

After the incident sparked controversy, Chungbuk Superintendent of Education Yoon Gunyoung stated on March 9, “The recent illegal filming incident is a serious crime that has shattered the trust of the education community,” and added, “As superintendent, I deeply feel responsible for the difficulties faced by staff members affected by this incident, and I will use every means available to support them.”
