On April 17, 314 retired principals, respected senior educators from the Gwangju area, declared their full support for Kim Daejung, the prospective candidate for superintendent of the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan Office of Education, becoming a new focal point in the election landscape.
The Gwangju Retired Principals' Association held a press conference at Kim Daejung's campaign office that morning, issuing a statement of support. They said, "We actively support candidate Kim, who has extensive experience in educational administration, for the normalization of Gwangju's education and the future of the region."

The association assessed, "At present, the essence of education in Gwangju is being shaken, and schools are suffering from severe confusion and conflict." They pointed out, "We are now at a critical crossroads where we can no longer leave our children's future to trial and error and experimentation."
They singled out Kim Daejung as the right person to overcome this crisis, stating, "He is a proven figure with many years of experience in educational administration and a deep understanding of the school environment, and is the right person to restore trust in public education and reestablish its fundamentals."
The specific reasons for their support include: ▲ restoring the essence of education, ▲ establishing a future-oriented education system, and ▲ implementing comprehensive educational welfare.
They emphasized, "Candidate Kim possesses a firm philosophy that places students' learning and growth at the center, while also restoring the professionalism and authority of teachers, which have declined. He has the full capability to lead Gwangju's education as a model for 'K-education' by introducing 2030 classrooms and strengthening AI-based individualized learning." They also expressed strong expectations for the establishment of a customized educational support system in which no child is left behind.
They added, "This superintendent election is more than a simple choice; it is a critical turning point that will determine the direction of Gwangju's education and the future of our children. We earnestly appeal to citizens to choose proven leadership wisely."
Meanwhile, this large-scale declaration of support was announced in the name of Kim Yongtae, former head of the Gwangju Regional Committee of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation and head of the Citizens' School (representative of the Gwangju Retired Principals' Association). The endorsement of 314 senior educators, who dedicated their lives to teaching, is providing significant momentum for candidate Kim Daejung's campaign.
