The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on April 17 that it has appointed Hwang Kyoik as the new president of the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute and presented him with a letter of appointment. His term will last for three years.
The ministry explained that Hwang, the new president, has built a wide range of on-site experience in the cultural content sector, serving as a journalist at Nongmin Shinmun, chief director of the Seoul Craft Fair, and chair of the organizing committee for the Busan Food Film Festa, among other roles. It also noted that he has communicated with the public through various channels, including writing, broadcasting, and lectures.
The Korea Culture & Tourism Institute is a research organization specializing in research, surveys, and evaluation in the fields of culture and arts, cultural industries, and tourism promotion. Established in 2002 through a merger, it is responsible for supporting policy development and producing and analyzing statistics, among other duties.
Choi Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We expect that the new president, drawing on his deep insight and extensive field experience, will drive innovation at the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute and help the institute grow as a leading research organization for 'K-Culture.'"
Hwang, the new president, was born in 1962 and graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in Journalism and Broadcasting. He previously worked as a journalist and editor at Nongmin Shinmun, served as chief director of the Seoul Craft Fair, was a non-standing research fellow at the Local Intellectual Property Center, and chaired the organizing committee of the Busan Food Film Festa.
