Gwangju Seo-gu Launches "City Rak" Cultural Platform

Expectations for Revitalizing Regular Performances in Urban Spaces
Transitioning from Viewing Performances to Enjoying Participatory Culture

Seo-gu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City is set to launch "City Rak," a cultural performance program that takes place in urban living spaces. This initiative aims to establish an open cultural platform where local artists and citizens can naturally meet and communicate in their daily lives.

"City Rak" goes beyond a simple performance program; it is a venue for interaction where cultural artists and residents connect and engage through culture. The goal is to increase citizens' accessibility to culture by allowing them to experience it in everyday spaces such as parks, plazas, and observation decks-without the need to visit a concert hall. At the same time, it will provide local artists with a sustainable foundation for ongoing activities.

Seo-gu plans to present themed and regular performances throughout the city, tailored to each season. By utilizing weekday evenings and weekends, the district will offer performances that fit residents' daily rhythms, and will expand from passive viewing to participatory cultural experiences by introducing citizen-involved programs such as busking.

In addition, Seo-gu will utilize diverse venues, including Seochang Sensibility Observatory and Nanum Nuri Forest, aiming to turn the entire city into a single performance stage rather than limiting events to specific locations.

Details such as performance schedules and lineups can be found on the Seo-gu Office’s Culture and Tourism website.

Seo-gu Office Director Lee Kang Kim explained, "City Rak is not just about showcasing performances; its significance lies in creating a space where people are connected through culture."
