Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province announced on April 17 that it will actively implement a variety of promotional initiatives from this month through December to raise domestic and international awareness of the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the Hwasun Dolmen Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This project will be carried out using a "glocal" approach, which combines a "local" strategy-modern reinterpretation of the region’s unique historical assets-with a "global" strategy that leverages the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be held in Busan this July.
Through these efforts, the county aims to effectively convey the value of the Hwasun Dolmen Sites not only to domestic visitors, but also to global audiences, including delegations from 196 countries.
First, local programs will be operated within the dolmen site. Various experiential activities will be offered, such as "Daesin-ri Coffee Workshop," which reinterprets Bronze Age megalithic culture using millstones; a "Folk Material Exhibition Hall" involving local residents; "Dolmen Exploration Bus" tours with professional guides; and workshops for creating terrarium dolmen companion plants.
For global outreach, Hwasun County plans to operate a promotional booth for the Hwasun Dolmen Sites at the exhibition hall during the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in Busan in July.
The booth will feature multilingual promotional panels, banners, and video content highlighting the outstanding universal value (OUV) of the Hwasun Dolmen Sites.
Choi Ki-woon, Director of the Dolmen Project Office, stated, "We will proactively promote the Hwasun Dolmen Sites so that they can receive greater recognition on the world stage, taking the UNESCO World Heritage Committee session as an opportunity."
