K Auction announced on April 17 that it will hold its April auction at 4 p.m. on April 29 at its headquarters in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. A total of 101 works, valued at approximately 10.4 billion won, will be presented at the auction.
The auction lineup includes works by major figures in Korean modern and contemporary art, such as Damien Hirst, Ed Ruscha, Yun Hyongkeun, Park Seobo, Chung Sanghwa, Ha Chonghyun, Yoo Youngkuk, Kim Whanki, Nam June Paik, Kim Yoonshin, Lee Ufan, and Chung Changsup. Works by international artists such as Os Gemeos, Brian Calvin, Yuichi Hirako, Egami Etsu, Ayako Rokkaku, and Mayuka Yamamoto will also be featured in the auction.
In the classical art section, pieces such as "Landscape with Figures" by Gyeomjae Jeong Seon, "Ink Landscape in the Style of Wang Wei" by Hyunjae Sim Sa-jeong, and "Heavenly Jade Palace Three Treasures Book" by Chusa Kim Jeonghui will be offered, alongside works by Yusan Min Kyunggap, Unbo Kim Ki-chang, and Uhhyang Park Raehyun.
This auction will feature four works by Damien Hirst. "Resurgam" (2019), a large circular canvas with butterflies measuring 213.4 cm in diameter, is estimated at 700 million to 1.3 billion won. "Melamine" is estimated at 160 million to 300 million won, "Budget/Luxury" at 500 million to 900 million won, and "Psalm 115: Non Nobis, Domine" at 250 million to 400 million won.
Ed Ruscha’s "Spasm," a 1987 work that is rarely seen in Korea, will also be up for auction. Its estimated value is between 900 million and 2 billion won.
In the Korean contemporary art category, Yoo Youngkuk's 1965 work "Work" and Nam June Paik's 1997 set "Untitled" will be auctioned. The Nam June Paik set consists of eight paper drawings, with starting prices of 500 million and 400 million won, respectively.
Kim Yoonshin’s "Sum is Unity, Difference is Division 2020-3" (합이합일 분이분일 2020-3) will also be up for auction. Created in 2020 using acrylic on recycled wood, it is estimated at 45 million to 90 million won.
Significant works by leading Dansaekhwa artists will also seek new owners. Yun Hyongkeun’s "Burnt Umber & Ultramarine Blue" is estimated at 340 million to 650 million won, Ha Chonghyun’s "Conjunction 97-024" at 130 million to 930 million won, Chung Sanghwa’s "Untitled 82-7-3" at 480 million to 1 billion won, and Park Seobo’s "Ecriture No. 930713" at 300 million to 1.23 billion won.
A preview of the auction pieces will be held at the K Auction exhibition hall from April 18 to April 29. The exhibition hall will be open every day with free admission.
