Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province held a public hearing for the establishment of the “2040 Basic Plan for Namhae County (draft)” on the afternoon of April 15 at the multipurpose hall on the first floor of the Namhae Exile Literature Museum.
Approximately 130 residents, including Lee Chunsik who served as the chair, and presenters for each sector, attended the hearing to share a wide range of opinions on Namhae County’s long-term development direction and future vision.
This draft basic plan presents “Namhae, the Island of Opportunity Where Nature and Life Coexist in the Era of the South Coast” as its future vision, and includes a mid- to long-term spatial development strategy that reflects the region’s characteristics and growth potential.

The target population for 2040 has been set at 65,000, which includes the natural population, social population, and daytime active population. This plan takes into account both the expansion of the residential population and the inflow of people for living, tourism, and industry.
Prior to the hearing, County Governor Jang Chungnam stated, “The 2040 Basic Plan is the highest-level spatial plan that will present the desirable future vision and development direction for Namhae County,” and added, “Major projects such as the Namhae-Yeosu undersea tunnel, the extension of National Road No. 5, the expansion of the 5th Daejeon-Namhae National Wide-Area Railway Network, and the development of a support city linked to the aerospace industry in Sacheon are included in the plan.”
He went on to say, “I hope this public hearing will serve as an important opportunity to further define the future vision for Namhae County.”
