Democratic Party Maintains Record High at 48% for Third Consecutive Week

People Power Party Drops to 19%

In the upcoming June 3 local elections, public opinion strongly favored a victory for the ruling party over the opposition. President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating saw a slight decline but remained in the mid-60% range.

According to a regular opinion poll conducted by Gallup from April 14 to 16, which surveyed 1,000 people aged 18 and over nationwide through wireless telephone interviews (with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 13.8%), 66% of respondents said President Lee was "doing a good job." This marked a 1 percentage point decrease compared to last week's poll. The percentage of those who said he was "doing a poor job" was 26%, up 2 percentage points from the previous week.


In the party approval ratings survey, the Democratic Party of Korea maintained a 48% approval rate, the same as last week. This marks the third consecutive week that the Democratic Party has recorded its highest level of support since the current administration took office. Support for the People Power Party fell by 1 percentage point from last week to 19%.


Regarding the local elections, 45% of respondents said that "more candidates from the ruling party should be elected," while 28% said that "more opposition party candidates should be elected." Gallup explained, "In October of last year, the gap was 3 percentage points, but it widened to 10 percentage points in January this year and 17 percentage points in April."
