"Elderly Peer Prevention Against Phishing: KISA's Smartphone Security Officers in Full Operation"

The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) has launched the "Smartphone Security Officer" initiative to provide phishing crime prevention education to the elderly population.

On April 17, KISA announced that it is starting the Smartphone Security Officer program in collaboration with Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, aimed at preventing phishing crimes among the elderly. The Smartphone Security Officer project involves senior instructors visiting local welfare centers and senior citizens’ centers to provide peer-to-peer education on phishing crime prevention.

For this program, 35 Smartphone Security Officers affiliated with the Seongnam Senior Club will visit 68 regional welfare centers and senior citizens’ centers from April to December. They will conduct smartphone security inspections and actions such as blocking malicious apps and installing security apps, as well as provide education to prevent phishing crimes, including smishing.

Park Yonggyu, Head of the Digital Threat Response Division at KISA, stated, "With the acceleration of the artificial intelligence transition, it is becoming increasingly important to build a safety net for digitally vulnerable groups."
