POSCO Museum of Art Gwangyang to Hold First Anniversary Special Exhibition

From April 20 to June 20, Special Exhibition "Where Stories Meet"
Featuring Works by Youngki Seo, Johm Lee, Soobum Lim, and Heekim Ji

Gwangyang Steelworks (Director: Koh Jaeyoon) will host the first anniversary special exhibition, "Where Stories Meet," at the POSCO Museum of Art in Gwangyang from Monday, April 20, 2026, to Saturday, June 20, 2026.

This exhibition was designed to establish the POSCO Museum of Art in Gwangyang as a cultural landmark by combining the concept of a "map" with art, aiming to build a sense of connection with the local community and the broader world of culture and the arts. To this end, the works of four artists-Youngki Seo, Johm Lee, Soobum Lim, and Heekim Ji-who have each expanded their unique artistic worlds across the country, will be presented, including paintings, installations, and sculptures.

In particular, the exhibition takes advantage of the high ceilings of the POSCO Museum of Art in Gwangyang, offering visitors a distinctive experience that feels like journeying through different spaces. The progression-from the dark first floor, up the stairs, and into the light-filled second floor-mirrors the journey of a traveler exploring unknown realms and gradually completing their own map.

Participating artist Youngki Seo has been creating works that reimagine scenes from everyday life, rooted in personal experience, as imaginative images. He has held seven solo exhibitions in Gwangju and Germany and was recognized with the Special Prize at the 2023 Gwangju Art Award, among other distinctions.

Johm Lee, who expresses contemporary life through various media such as painting, sculpture, and 3D printing, has held eleven solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Canada Pavilion at the 15th Gwangju Biennale in 2024, as well as projects in Seoul and Canada, actively engaging with audiences.

Soobum Lim, who imagines and artistically transforms unknown beings from worlds beyond language, participated in the Gwangju Pavilion at the 15th Gwangju Biennale in 2024 and is currently an exclusive artist at Arario Gallery Seoul.

Heekim Ji, who completed postgraduate studies in London and Seoul and is now an associate professor at Dongguk University, presents a unique world through drawings that project complex human emotions-such as comfort, compassion, love, and happiness-onto plants. She was selected as a winner in the 5th Kumho Young Artist program in 2016 and in the visual arts category of the Surim Art Lab from 2012 to 2022.

Coinciding with the special exhibition, interactive programs with the artists will be offered, providing employees opportunities to meet and communicate directly with the artists. During the exhibition, there will also be diverse hands-on activities with the artists available on Saturdays.

A representative from Gwangyang Steelworks stated, "This special exhibition is where stories that began from different coordinates come together at the POSCO Museum of Art in Gwangyang to create new narratives. We hope this will be a time for visitors to imagine, through art, the future that the museum and the local community will envision together."

This exhibition is open to everyone, and those wishing to receive a guided tour can make a reservation in advance through the official website (park1538.posco.com).

Meanwhile, since the opening of Park1538 Gwangyang in April last year, POSCO Museum of Art in Gwangyang-the city’s only corporate art museum-has made its mark in the City of Light by engaging and communicating with the local community through culture and the arts. Over the past year, the museum has presented a substantial lineup of exhibitions (the inaugural special collection exhibition and traveling exhibitions), as well as a variety of educational programs and cultural events, including family art workshops and special lectures by invited experts.
