On April 16, Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin Special City, visited the site of the "72nd Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival 2026 Gwangju," which opened in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, and encouraged the delegation representing Yongin City.

원본보기 아이콘That afternoon, at the opening ceremony held at Gwangju G-Stadium, Mayor Lee participated in the entrance ceremony alongside the Yongin Special City athletes and promoted the city's achievements as a leading global semiconductor hub to the representatives of the 31 participating cities and counties.
Following the opening ceremony, during a dinner with the athletes, Mayor Lee said, "I hope that the athletes representing Yongin at the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival will achieve outstanding results, enhancing the city's stature and the pride of our citizens. I also hope that the athletes complete their matches without injury, demonstrate the skills they have honed, and achieve valuable results."

Prior to the opening ceremony, Mayor Lee visited the venues for the Yongin Special City taekwondo and bowling teams participating in the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival to cheer on the athletes. From the very first day, the athletes reported victories in various events, marking a strong start to the competition.

원본보기 아이콘For this event, Yongin Special City dispatched a total delegation of 485 people (312 athletes and 173 staff members) to compete in 26 disciplines, excluding billiards. In particular, six teams from the Yongin City Hall sports division are participating, further boosting the city's medal prospects.
After finishing sixth in Division 1 at the 71st tournament held in Gapyeong last year, the Yongin Special City team is determined to achieve even better results at this year's event, continuing their fierce competition until the closing ceremony on April 18.
