On April 16, at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, KIA secured a 5-1 victory over Kiwoom in the third game of their 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League season series. Following a 7-5 win the previous day, KIA defeated Kiwoom for the second consecutive day, improving their season record to 9 wins and 7 losses (a winning percentage of 0.563), tying for fourth place with SSG Landers.

Once again, home runs proved decisive. In the game on the 15th, star slugger Kim Doyoung shined. After tying the game with a timely hit in the bottom of the first inning, Kim solidified the lead with a solo home run (his fifth of the season) over the left field wall off Park Jinhyung’s fastball in the bottom of the seventh, when KIA was narrowly ahead 6-5. Kim Horyeong also contributed with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.

In today's game, Nail's strong pitching and Castro’s key homer were the highlights.

Starting ace Nail laid the foundation for victory with five innings of one-run ball. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Castro turned the tide by blasting a go-ahead two-run home run over the right field wall off Alcantara’s 153 km/h fastball. In the bottom of the seventh, Kim Horyeong delivered a two-RBI single, effectively sealing the win.

The bullpen also played a crucial role. The relievers came in during critical situations and held the Kiwoom lineup scoreless, and closer Seong Youngtak closed out the final inning without allowing a run to secure the team's winning streak.

KIA will head out on a road trip starting April 18, aiming for their eighth consecutive win.
