The National Palace Museum of Korea announced on April 17 that it has selected 28 couples for its outdoor wedding support program, through which the Ginkgo Tree Rest Area will be open free of charge as a wedding venue this fall.
Initially, the museum had planned to support 16 couples over a four-week period, but due to a surge of 293 applications during just one week of registration, the program was expanded to six weeks to accommodate 28 couples.
The museum will provide 1 million won to cover the cost of renting the indoor banquet hall and necessary equipment along with the wedding venue. For two couples from socially disadvantaged groups, such as low-income families and foreign workers, the museum will cover the full cost up to a limit of 6.5 million won.
A museum official stated, "We selected a diverse group of couples, including those from multicultural families, people with disabilities, military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and young people who have overcome difficult circumstances. Starting next year, we plan to expand the program to be held twice a year, in both spring and fall."
