Wansan-dong and Hwasan-myeon in Yeongcheon City are accelerating the development of their local communities by each holding events aimed at building a human safety network to eliminate welfare blind spots and strengthening solidarity among local leaders.
On April 16, the Wansan-dong Administrative Welfare Center held a ceremony to appoint new honorary social welfare officers and provided capacity-building training designed to proactively identify households in the community facing welfare crises.
At the ceremony, nine senior customized care service support workers-who provide direct care for the elderly in the field-were newly appointed as honorary social welfare officers.
In their unpaid honorary positions, they will play a pivotal role in identifying neighbors in need at an early stage and connecting them to administrative support.
The training session following the appointment ceremony offered practical education on case studies of discovering welfare blind spots, counseling techniques for at-risk households, and procedures for reporting and connecting individuals to services.
Hahn Muhyeon, head of Wansan-dong, expressed gratitude to the committee members for taking on the important duty of caring for their neighbors, and stated the intent to further strengthen the social welfare safety net through public-private cooperation.
Currently, about 40 local residents-including neighborhood chiefs and members of the Community Social Security Council-are serving as honorary social welfare officers in Wansan-dong, putting the spirit of community care into practice.
On the same day, a traditional Yutnori game event was held in Hwasan-myeon, organized by the Thursday Club, to promote communication and harmony among local organizations and associations.
This event brought together heads of major organizations in the area to enjoy the traditional game Yutnori, aiming to strengthen mutual bonds and foster a collaborative community atmosphere.
Participants engaged in warm communication, encouraging each other regardless of the outcome, and continued to freely discuss local issues during a round-table meeting that followed the event.
Kim Sunmi, head of Hwasan-myeon, evaluated the event as an opportunity to solidify trust among local group leaders and stated that a variety of activities for local unity and development will continue in the future.
The Hwasan-myeon Thursday Club plans to continue energizing the local community through regular gatherings.
