The Seoul Northern District Court announced on the 16th that Mr. A (aged 59), who was indicted and detained on charges of murder and attempted murder, has filed a notice of appeal.

Previously, on the 10th, the 14th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court (Presiding Judge Oh Byunghee) sentenced Mr. A to life imprisonment and ordered him to wear an electronic location-tracking device for 15 years.

Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of killing the wife and seriously injuring the husband of a restaurant owner in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, on October 26 last year. The incident occurred after he got into an argument with the couple over not receiving a lottery ticket worth 1,000 won, which is typically given for cash payments, and then wielded a weapon.

Meanwhile, during the trial, Mr. A claimed diminished mental capacity, stating that he could not remember the incident at the time of the crime. However, the court rejected this claim, stating, "Considering the circumstances before and after the crime, as well as the defendant's words and actions, it is difficult to conclude that he was in a state where his ability to discern right from wrong or make decisions was significantly impaired."
