Focused Investment to Revitalize Local Economy and Residents’ Livelihoods

Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has drawn up its first supplementary budget for this year, embarking in earnest on its journey toward becoming a self-sufficient city in order to overcome the economic downturn and secure future growth engines.

On April 16, Namyangju City announced that it had submitted the "First Supplementary Budget Bill" to the city council, totaling 2.5857 trillion won-an increase of 239.9 billion won (10.2%) compared to the 2026 main budget. This supplementary budget focuses on revitalizing the local economy, expanding the social welfare network, and investing in social overhead capital (SOC) projects to strengthen the city's competitiveness.


By account, the general account has been set at 2.2632 trillion won, up 153.4 billion won, and the special account has been set at 322.5 billion won, an increase of 86.5 billion won, respectively.


To revitalize the local economy and boost neighborhood businesses, the city will allocate 10.9 billion won to provide a 10% incentive for Namyangju Love Gift Certificates and inject a total of 12.4 billion won into related initiatives.


In the field of social welfare, the city has allocated a total of 58.6 billion won to reinforce protection and welfare safety nets for vulnerable groups, including basic pensions and long-term care benefits for the elderly, as well as meal support for children at risk of malnutrition.


For urban development and SOC expansion to secure future growth engines, the city has allotted 34.6 billion won. This will fund projects such as the construction of the Ipae-dong Comprehensive Resource Circulation Complex (5.8 billion won), establishment of an urban living area plan (1.2 billion won), and creation of a waterfront space at Sa Neungcheon in Pyeongnae (1 billion won), all aimed at enhancing the city’s competitiveness.


In the fields of transportation and road infrastructure, a total of 21.5 billion won will be invested to improve residents’ mobility and strengthen the foundation for local development.


The city plans to implement projects such as 8.6 billion won for the operation of the Jinjeop and Byeollae railway lines, 2 billion won for the construction of the Dasanjigeum District public parking lot, 2 billion won for road expansion around Nokchon IC in Hwado, and 1 billion won for the expansion of the Jinjeop Jungmal to Cheolma Interchange road.


In the sports and culture sector, 14.6 billion won will be allocated to expand community sports facilities and cultural infrastructure. In the field of safety, 9.7 billion won will be invested to enhance preventive safety systems, such as road safety management and facility improvements.


This first supplementary budget bill will be reviewed and decided at the 319th Namyangju City Council extraordinary session, scheduled to be held from April 16 to April 27.
