Expected to Bridge the Local Cultural Gap

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Kwonjae) has newly established a daily cultural space that citizens can use in the eastern part of the city, where cultural infrastructure has been relatively lacking. Beyond merely expanding facilities, the city has created a "local cultural hub" where residents can gather and engage in activities, raising great expectations within the local community.

On April 15, the city held a completion ceremony for the "Osan Ieum Lounge," a new local culture center established in Busan-dong. The event was attended by more than 400 people, including Mayor Lee Kwonjae of Osan, city and provincial council members, officials from related organizations, and residents. The ceremony began with a performance by a local citizens’ club, followed by a progress report, commemorative speeches and congratulatory addresses, a ribbon-cutting, and a tour of the facility.

The Osan Ieum Lounge (792, Busan-dong) was built as a single-story building with a total floor area of 959.92 square meters. Inside, it features a lounge area, an open space called "Maru," soundproof practice rooms, and a multipurpose hall, making it suitable for various cultural activities such as performances, practice, and meetings.

In particular, the center has been designed as a community-oriented space that can be used by all generations, not limited to any specific group. By providing a structure where residents can naturally gather and interact, it is expected to play a role in expanding the foundation for cultural activities in the region.

The city plans to utilize this space as a hub for revitalizing the local cultural community. Step-by-step, Osan City will promote space rentals, operate daily culture programs, and foster and support cultural arts clubs.

After a certain period of operational preparation, the facility will be fully opened to the public. The city is also considering expansion plans in response to future citizen demand.

Mayor Lee Kwonjae of Osan stated, "I hope the Ieum Lounge will become a cultural space that naturally blends into the daily lives of residents in the eastern region," adding, "We will strive to operate it as a place where anyone can comfortably visit, interact with neighbors, and enjoy culture."
