Busan City and Gijang County Sign Agreement on Jeonggwan Urban Railway Line... Construction to Begin in 2028, Opening in 2032

Busan Metropolitan City and Gijang County are establishing a collaborative framework for the construction of the Jeonggwan Line urban railway.

On April 16, Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyung-joon) announced that it would sign a 'Basic Agreement for the Jeonggwan Line Urban Railway Construction Project' with Gijang County at City Hall.

The Jeonggwan Line is a route that connects Wolpyeong-ri in Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang County, passes through Jeonggwan New Town, and extends to Jwacheon Station on the Donghae Line. The total length is 12.8 kilometers, with 13 stations and one train depot planned. The total project cost amounts to 479.4 billion won.

The Jeonggwan Line is expected to resolve transportation inconveniences in Gijang County, which has not previously been served by urban railway. Through transfers to the 'Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway' and the 'Donghae Line,' it will establish a circular railway network in eastern Busan, form a metropolitan economic zone covering Busan, Yangsan, and Ulsan, and serve as a key public transportation facility connecting the '15-Minute City Busan' living zone.

Under the agreement, Busan Metropolitan City will oversee the overall project, while Gijang County will be responsible for sharing the project costs and supporting permits and approvals. The two organizations will form a working-level consultative body to collaborate on project implementation.

The city plans to conduct a feasibility study and establish a basic plan this year, with the goal of commencing construction in 2028 and opening the line in 2032. Mayor Park Hyung-joon stated, "The Jeonggwan Line is a core infrastructure project for resolving transportation inconveniences in eastern Busan and connecting the broader metropolitan living area."
