Samsung Life Insurance announced on April 16 that, as of the end of the first quarter, it ranked first among the top 10 providers by reserves in the most recent one-year return for defined contribution (DC) retirement pension products.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's retirement pension provider comparison disclosure, the most recent one-year return on Samsung Life Insurance's DC-type retirement pension non-principal-guaranteed products was calculated at 25.17%. The principal-guaranteed product also recorded a one-year return of 3.55%, achieving the highest rate among the top 10 providers for both principal-guaranteed and non-principal-guaranteed products.
During the same period, individual retirement pension (IRP) returns were also strong. Samsung Life Insurance's IRP non-principal-guaranteed product posted a one-year return of 23.28%, while the principal-guaranteed product recorded 4.19%, ranking second and first, respectively, among the top 10 providers. The defined benefit (DB) retirement pension principal-guaranteed product also maintained a top-tier position with a one-year return of 3.51%, following the previous quarter's 3.62%.
Recently, the retirement pension market has been shifting away from deposit-focused principal-guaranteed management toward greater interest in non-principal-guaranteed products that diversify investments across various assets such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs), target date funds (TDFs), and equity and bond-type funds. As the trend emphasizing real returns, directly tied to the size of retirement assets, has strengthened, the market share of DC and IRP products has been steadily increasing.
For DC and IRP products, a dedicated sales division was established earlier this year to enhance competitiveness. Samsung Life Insurance's retirement pension specialists, known as Relationship Managers (RMs), provide tailored portfolio consultations for each subscriber, supporting improvements in actual returns. The wealth management center also offers intensive management review services for subscribers with low investment performance.
A Samsung Life Insurance representative stated, "With DC and IRP plans, since subscribers directly select and manage their own assets, long-term asset allocation and risk management are directly linked to their retirement assets," adding, "We will continue to strengthen customized management support tailored to each customer's investment preferences and retirement goals, so they can prepare their retirement assets in a stable manner."
