Suwon City to Select Outstanding Skilled Technicians as 'Suwon Master Craftsmen' by August

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is accepting applications for the 'Suwon Master Craftsman' program until April 30, aiming to discover outstanding skilled technicians who have contributed to the advancement and transmission of skills at local industrial worksites.


The Suwon Master Craftsman program is a system that selects and honors technicians with exceptional skills who have devoted years to honing their craft in the field and have contributed to the development of the local industry.


Suwon City is launching the 'Suwon Master Craftsman' program for the first time this year, with the goal of boosting skilled workers' pride and establishing a systematic foundation for passing down local technical expertise.


Eligible fields include 92 occupations across 38 categories as specified by the Enforcement Decree of the Skilled Technician Promotion Act. Applicants must have at least 10 years of experience in the relevant industrial field, have worked for at least 3 years at a business located in Suwon as of the announcement date, and be registered as residents of Suwon City.


Applications require a recommendation from the head of a company based in Suwon, the head of the relevant occupational association, the district chief or neighborhood chief, or the head of a nonprofit organization or group related to skilled technology.

Applicants must search for 'Suwon Master Craftsman' on the Suwon City website (www.suwon.go.kr), download and complete the application form, and submit it in person or by registered mail (Suwon City, 1st floor, Annex, 241 Hyowon-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Job Creation Team, Labor and Job Policy Division) between April 20 and April 30, 6:00 p.m.


Suwon City will conduct document screening, on-site assessments, and interviews, selecting up to three individuals by the end of August.


The selected Master Craftsmen will be awarded a certificate and a credential, and will receive an incentive of 1 million won per year for five years, totaling 5 million won. Their names will also be listed on the Suwon City website and in promotional booklets, and they will be invited to serve as instructors for related education and training programs.


A Suwon City official stated, "This program has been established to discover outstanding skilled technicians who have honed their craft over many years at local industrial sites and to widely promote their value. We will select Master Craftsmen fairly and substantively, elevate the status of skilled workers, and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the local industry."
