In Wando County and Muan County, as no candidate secured a majority, the final nominee will be determined through a runoff election.

In Wando, where three candidates competed, Woo Hongseop and Ji Youngbae will advance to the runoff. In Muan, which had a four-way race, Kim San and Na Gwangguk will face each other in the runoff.

In Jangseong and Hwasun, due to proxy voting controversies and an ensuing investigation by the election commission, the Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Chapter decided to temporarily suspend the nomination process. In Yeosu, the main nomination schedule was postponed due to controversy over the leakage of the party member list.

The Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Chapter plans to announce the schedule for the runoffs and follow-up measures for the suspended regions at a later date.

Meanwhile, this round of Democratic Party basic local government head nominations (held from April 14 to 15) was conducted using a “citizen participation primary” system, combining 50% votes from party members with 50% from a public opinion poll using a secure phone number system. In multi-candidate constituencies, if no candidate wins a majority, the final nominee is decided through a runoff between the top two candidates.

As of this date, nominees for basic local government heads have been finalized in a total of 17 out of 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do.
