Park Soo-hyun Confirmed as Democratic Party Candidate for South Chungcheong Governor... Set to Face Kim Tae-heum of People Power Party

Assemblyman Park Soo-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea has been confirmed as the party’s candidate for South Chungcheong Province governor in the June 3 local elections.

On April 15, Democratic Party Central Election Commission Chairperson So Byung-hoon announced at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, that Assemblyman Park had been elected as the Democratic Party candidate for South Chungcheong Province governor following a runoff vote.

After a runoff primary that began on April 13, Park defeated candidate Yang Seung-jo to become the party’s final nominee.

Park will face off against the incumbent South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum of the People Power Party in the general election. In addition, a by-election is expected to be held simultaneously with the local elections in Park’s constituency of Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang in South Chungcheong Province.

Park previously served as spokesperson and Senior Secretary for Public Communication at the Blue House under the Moon Jae-in administration, and as the party’s chief spokesperson during the leadership of Democratic Party Chairman Jeong Cheong-rae. He was elected as a member of the 19th National Assembly as a candidate of the Democratic United Party and won re-election in the 22nd general election.
