Funeral service companies are actively pushing for the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). The trend of AI transformation (AX), which is spreading across all domestic industries, is now making its way into the funeral service sector.

According to industry sources on April 15, major funeral service companies are rapidly launching AX-related projects. Previously, AI adoption was limited to areas such as AI memorial services and smart funeral notifications. Now, discussions are expanding to encompass not only internal work systems but also all facets of customer service.

Woongjin Freed Life is building a next-generation system that integrates AI technology and big data, and is now introducing machine learning-based analytics in earnest. The company aims to simultaneously improve work efficiency and customer service quality through these efforts. Machine learning refers to technology that enables computers to learn patterns from massive datasets on their own, thereby enhancing their capabilities in prediction, classification, and decision-making.

First, it will establish an integrated data analytics platform. By consolidating scattered data-such as customer, sales, and operations data-the company intends to increase the accuracy and speed of management decision-making, and thereby enhance operational efficiency and management precision across the organization. In areas such as call centers and customer inquiry work, the company plans to introduce AI-based support solutions to improve consultation quality and enable swift responses.

Boram Group is also reviewing various AI-related projects. In January of this year, Boram Group presented seven key trends expected to shape the funeral service industry in 2026, highlighting 'C.U.R.A.T.O.R' as its core keyword. The 'A' stands for 'AI-based funeral service.' This move is seen as an effort to lay the groundwork for new AI-powered funeral services and memorial cultures to take root across society.

Internally, the company has several AI adoption tasks currently in the incubation phase. Although the specific form of the services and their launch schedules have not yet been disclosed, the company explained that AI chatbots, the advancement of funeral services, and office automation are all under consideration and application.

An industry official stated, "Just as AI is already being utilized across industries such as finance and healthcare, in the funeral service industry, AI will become a tool for designing and proposing care services tailored to customers' life cycles."
