Hapcheon County announced that the Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant construction project has obtained its power generation business license after undergoing review and approval by the Electricity Commission. As a result, the project has now entered its full-scale implementation phase.
The Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant construction project, which passed the preliminary feasibility study in January, has now also obtained the power generation business license, smoothly completing major administrative procedures.
Moving forward, the county plans to conduct an environmental impact assessment, construct a relocation road for National Route 24, and implement detailed designs for the power generation development project, with the goal of completing construction by December 2034.
The Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant is a large-scale national project with a total investment of 2.549 trillion won. It will be established in Sanje-ri and Banpo-ri, Myosan-myeon, and is planned as a 900MW-class variable-speed pumped storage power plant.
Pumped storage power plants are considered eco-friendly energy facilities that can both produce and store electricity. In particular, they are expected to play a key role in compensating for output variability resulting from the expansion of renewable energy, as well as enhancing grid stability and energy supply security.
The project is also anticipated to have a significant ripple effect on the local economy. The county expects the creation of approximately 7,600 direct and indirect jobs and an influx of new residents during the implementation of the project. In addition, the county anticipates long-term increases in tax revenue, and estimates that the project will generate about 2 trillion won in production, income, and value-added effects.
Furthermore, the project is expected to provide local residents with various economic opportunities and benefits, and could serve as a win-win development model through cooperation between the local community and the power plant operator.
An official from Hapcheon County stated, "The Dumusan Pumped Storage Power Plant will go beyond being a simple power facility and become a core driver of Hapcheon's future growth," adding, "We will ensure the remaining procedures reflect the opinions of county residents and will proceed transparently and promptly."
