Hwasun County, South Jeolla Province, announced on April 14 that 30 public seasonal foreign workers had entered the country.
The entry ceremony was held in the main conference room of the Dogok Agricultural Cooperative’s 3rd Agricultural Products Distribution Center. The event was attended by 38 seasonal workers (including 8 who entered earlier on January 29), officials from Dogok Agricultural Cooperative, and representatives from Hwasun County. The program began with a national salute, followed by a welcoming address, commemorative photo session, and training on workers’ rights and safety.
The public seasonal foreign worker system operates by having regional agricultural cooperatives, selected by local governments, directly employ workers and dispatch them to farms in need of labor on a daily basis. Dogok Agricultural Cooperative hired local workers based on a business agreement signed between Hwasun County and Bay Si, Philippines.
An Jin-hwan, Head of the Rural Vitality Division, stated, “This year, we plan to operate the public seasonal foreign worker system with 40 workers, an increase of 10 compared to last year. While supporting local farms is important, above all, safety is our top priority, so please pay special attention to preventing workplace accidents.”
Meanwhile, Hwasun County plans to operate a total of 615 seasonal foreign workers this year (575 through the farm-based system and 40 through the public system).
