The premiere of the musical "Hell's Kitchen," which Alicia Keys led from planning through to full production over a span of 13 years, will open on July 24, 2026, at the GS Art Center.
The Korean premiere of "Hell's Kitchen" is the "first-ever licensed production in a non-English-speaking country," realized about two years after its Broadway debut. "Hell's Kitchen" was nominated for the most awards at the 2024 Tony Awards with 13 nominations, and it was a sensation, winning Best Leading Actress and Best Featured Actress.
Timeless hits that defined an era, including Alicia Keys' debut song "Fallin'," the Grammy-winning global favorite "If I Ain't Got You," and the New York anthem "Empire State of Mind," will all be vividly brought to life on stage. Newly composed songs for the musical, such as "Kaleidoscope," will further elevate its musical sophistication. The music, rooted in R&B, hip-hop, and soul, will be combined with street dance-driven ensemble choreography, three-dimensionally recreating the atmosphere of 1990s New York where music, fashion, and dance are all intertwined.
Alicia Keys, who wrote the music and lyrics, not only crafted the musical texture but also designed the stage composition herself. She was highly involved in the casting and vocal direction process, and has been acclaimed for fully demonstrating her capabilities as both producer and creator.
The direction of "Hell's Kitchen" is helmed by Michael Greif, who is credited with shaping the course of contemporary musical theater through works like "Rent," "Next to Normal," and "Dear Evan Hansen."
The creative team also includes playwright Kristoffer Diaz, a Pulitzer Prize finalist for the play "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity," and choreographer Camille A. Brown, who is recognized for her original style fusing African diaspora culture with contemporary dance.
"Hell's Kitchen" is scheduled to run for a little over three months until November 8, 2026.
