This measure follows the central government’s plan to provide customized support by income group to about 70% of the population, aiming to alleviate the burden on citizens caused by high oil prices and inflation, and to strengthen support for vulnerable groups. In line with this, the city has proactively established a response system to ensure that the relief funds are distributed quickly and without any issues.

The support amounts are differentiated by beneficiary group: 600,000 won for recipients of the Basic Livelihood Security Program, 500,000 won for the near-poor and single-parent households, and 150,000 won for those in the bottom 70% income bracket. The funds will be distributed in stages according to each group.

The first round of payments will be made to Basic Livelihood Security recipients and the near-poor from April 27 to May 8, with application and payment occurring simultaneously. In Chuncheon, the eligible recipients include 17,283 people in the Basic Livelihood Security group and 1,693 in the near-poor group, including household members.

The second round will target those in the bottom 70% income bracket, with applications accepted from May 18 to July 3. To reduce congestion during the initial application period, a weekday rotation system will be implemented for the first week. The final number of eligible recipients will be confirmed after the relevant system is operational.

Applications will be accepted both online and offline. Online applications can be submitted through credit or debit card company websites and apps, call centers, and the local gift certificate mobile app. Offline applications can be made at bank branches affiliated with card companies and at local community service centers.

Citizens can choose to receive the payments via credit or debit card, mobile local gift certificate, or prepaid card, enhancing convenience. Additionally, a ‘visiting application service’ will be offered for elderly and disabled citizens with mobility challenges, where designated officials will visit applicants in person to assist with the process upon request.

Chuncheon Acting Mayor Hyun Joon-tae stated, “As the burden of living expenses increases due to high oil prices, we hope this relief fund will provide meaningful help to our citizens. Centered around the task force, we will proceed swiftly and smoothly from application to payment, ensuring that the positive effects of this policy are clearly felt by the public.”
