GS Engineering & Construction announced on April 15 that it has introduced an energy-saving program based on employee participation, joining government policy initiatives.
GS Engineering & Construction has continuously practiced energy conservation, mainly at its headquarters in Gran Seoul, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and at the GS Engineering & Construction Seocho Tower, its R&D center located in Seocho-gu. During the summer, the company has enhanced cooling efficiency and conducted lights-out campaigns during lunchtime, leading efforts to create an environment where energy conservation is naturally integrated into daily life.
To actively participate in this government-led conservation campaign, GS Engineering & Construction plans to further accelerate its energy-saving initiatives by enhancing its company-wide energy management system and implementing participatory programs for energy reduction.
In particular, this internal energy-saving activity has been designed to minimize employee inconvenience by analyzing actual elevator and commuting data. The company will change the previous two-stage post-work hour office lights-out process to a five-stage sequential lights-out system, reflecting employees' departure times. In addition, during non-peak hours-excluding commuting and lunchtime-some elevators in the Gran Seoul headquarters building will be suspended, and the company will also participate in the odd-even vehicle rotation system.
On the same day, the company will launch the "Ja! easy Challenge," an energy-saving program in which employees directly participate. The program is designed so that employees can authenticate and share their daily energy-saving practices, such as using stairs, conserving electricity and water, and using tumblers. The focus is on encouraging voluntary participation and amplifying the program's impact throughout the organization.
GS Engineering & Construction plans to further develop this program so that it becomes more than a one-off event, turning everyday employee practices into an established part of the company culture.
A GS Engineering & Construction spokesperson said, "We are elevating the level of energy conservation by moving beyond operations-focused activities to an approach that embraces employee participation," adding, "We will continue to expand company-wide energy-saving practices to proactively fulfill ESG management and social responsibilities."
