As expectations rise that SK hynix employees will receive record-high performance bonuses, a post by a production worker expressing satisfaction with the company's compensation system is drawing attention.
On April 14, a post was uploaded on Blind, an anonymous online community for office workers, by a user identified as Mr. A, who described himself as a production employee at SK hynix. Blind is an online community where users must verify their employment at a specific company to join.
Mr. A wrote, "I didn't study much in middle school, so I never even dreamed of attending an academic high school and simply wanted to get a job early," adding, "I entered a local technical high school, easily came in second in my class, and joined the company last year after changing jobs."
He continued, "I've never attended a private academy or anything like that, so I never had to spend money on such things. There really is no route with better cost-effectiveness than this," and added, "I think metacognition is important in life."
However, Mr. A noted that the work intensity is quite high. He said, "Of course, shift work is tough," but added, "Still, looking at my bank account makes me feel satisfied."
After the post became a topic of discussion, Mr. A added, "Naturally, I know that the difficulty of entering office positions and production roles is different," and explained, "I am someone who understands my own level well, so I thought that even if I went to a four-year university, I probably wouldn’t make it to a major company, or even a mid-sized one, so I chose to start working early."
He went on to say, "Of course, other people with better qualifications and skills could have been hired instead of me. I also think that luck plays a big part."
SK hynix is expected to post record-breaking results for the first quarter of this year, driven by the semiconductor supercycle. There are also high expectations for employee performance bonuses. Global investment bank Macquarie Securities has estimated SK hynix’s operating profit for next year at 447 trillion won. In this case, the excess profit distribution (PS) fund would be about 44.7 trillion won, and dividing this by the total number of employees (approximately 34,500) would result in an average performance bonus of about 1.29 billion won per person.
