Kangsoo Park, the incumbent Mayor of Mapo District, announced on April 15 that he registered as a preliminary candidate for Mayor of Mapo District in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections on April 13, officially launching his bid for re-election.

Preliminary candidate Park stated, "I will ensure that the policies and initiatives I have promoted continue in a stable manner," and added, "Under my administrative philosophy of 'action over words,' I will drive the development of Mapo based on administrative continuity."

His major achievements during his term include the creation of the "Red Road" in the Hongdae area, the "Participatory Senior Meal Program" for seniors aged 75 and older, and the return of the Mapo water retention basin. He also highlighted as a key issue the prevention of an additional resource recovery facility being located in Sangam-dong.

Preliminary candidate Park plans to hold an official press conference announcing his candidacy on April 23, where he will present his future plans for district administration and policy directions. On May 12 at 3 p.m., he will hold an opening ceremony for his campaign office. Taking the preliminary candidate registration as an opportunity, he also intends to visit major sites in the region and gather residents' opinions.
