Gyeonggi Province to Provide 39 Billion Won in Emergency Funding for Agriculture

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government is providing an emergency injection of 39 billion won to local farmers and agri-food companies struggling due to the Middle East conflict.

On April 15, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it had decided to offer a total of 39 billion won in support for local farmers and agri-food producers facing management difficulties caused by rising raw material prices and increased logistics costs, including packaging material support and low-interest loans.

First, the province will implement a 35 billion won low-interest emergency management loan program for farmers and fishers. Local agricultural and fishery businesses can borrow funds at an annual interest rate of 1%, with individuals eligible for up to 60 million won and corporations for up to 200 million won.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will also provide 4 billion won in support to packaging material companies.

The support will cover a total of four initiatives: ▲export agri-food packaging materials, ▲packaging materials for wholesale market shipments, ▲G-Mark-certified agricultural product packaging materials by the Gyeonggi governor, and ▲local food packaging materials.

This packaging material support is expected to not only help maintain export competitiveness but also reduce the distribution costs of fresh produce, providing tangible assistance to agricultural businesses by lowering production costs and stabilizing management.

Paek Jongmin, Director-General of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "According to feedback from the field, farmers and agri-food companies are experiencing severe difficulties due to recent disruptions in the supply of raw milk and rising logistics costs," adding, "We will continue to listen to the voices on the ground and actively support Gyeonggi agri-food products so they can remain competitive in both domestic and international markets."
