Goheung County in South Jeolla Province, led by County Governor Gong Youngmin, is accelerating efforts to establish the Goheung Cultural Foundation, a non-profit foundation that will serve as the control tower to strengthen the region’s expertise in culture and arts and realize the vision of "Goheung, a Cultural City."
The county announced that on the 14th, it held the inaugural general meeting of the Goheung Cultural Foundation at the Palyongsan Hall in the county office, attended by County Governor Gong Youngmin and 16 founders and executives.

These included a progress report on the foundation’s establishment, adoption of the founding statement, determination of the organization’s structure and number of executives and staff, approval of the articles of incorporation, and deliberation on the 2026 business plan and budget proposal.
To date, Goheung County has carried out administrative procedures for the foundation’s establishment at a swift pace. After completing a feasibility study by the Jeonnam Research Institute in May last year, the county passed screening by both the Goheung County and South Jeolla Province Committees for the Management of Funded and Contributed Organizations in September and October, respectively. Subsequently, on October 30, the county established a related ordinance, providing an institutional foundation for the new entity.
Going forward, the county plans to promptly complete the remaining procedures, including applying to South Jeolla Province for approval to establish a non-profit corporation and completing the registration of the foundation. The foundation’s office will be located on the second floor of the "Goheung Dream Art Center," and full-scale operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.
County Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "The establishment of the Goheung Cultural Foundation will be a turning point for Goheung to become a cultural city," adding, "As expectations from local residents are high, we will do our utmost to ensure that the remaining procedures are completed smoothly and the foundation can be operated stably."
