U.S. President Donald Trump suggested on April 14 (local time) that there is a possibility the second ceasefire negotiations with Iran could resume within the next two days in Islamabad, Pakistan.
In a phone interview with the New York Post on this day, President Trump told a reporter, "You need to stay there," adding, "Because something could happen in the next two days, and the likelihood of us going there has increased."
President Trump elaborated, "Do you know why the probability has increased? Because the field marshal is doing an excellent job." The "field marshal" appears to refer to Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, who is known to have played a decisive role in the success of the first ceasefire talks.
President Trump also criticized European leaders for not helping to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He said, "All they do is hold meetings. That is all they do," adding, "They are paper tigers."
Meanwhile, the United States and Iran held about 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, but the talks broke down.
