Jinsook Lee, People Power Party Daegu Mayoral Candidate, Rejects Donghyuk Jang’s Request to Join National Assembly: "Restore the Eight-Person Primary"

Jinsook Lee, preliminary candidate for Mayor of Daegu from the People Power Party, stated on April 14, "On April 9, I met with Party Leader Donghyuk Jang, and he suggested that I come to the National Assembly and join him in fighting against the tyranny of the Democratic Party. While I deeply appreciate his sincerity, what is even more important is to uphold principles within the People Power Party itself."

At a press conference held at 3:00 p.m. on the same day at the People Power Party Daegu City Office in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, Lee emphasized, "There should never again be a situation in the People Power Party where a candidate leading by an overwhelming margin is cut off arbitrarily, without any clear standards or principles and even without a primary. There must never be a second or third Jinsook Lee in the future."

Lee went on to say, "For Party Leader Jang’s proposal to have any meaning, the eight-person primary must first be reinstated. Any wrongdoing must be corrected. If such corrections are not made and I accept a flawed decision in the name of so-called ‘party before self,’ I would become someone who compromises with unfairness and injustice, and a betrayer of the citizens of Daegu."

Lee further stated, "Only by properly restoring the primary process in Daegu for this crisis-ridden local election will citizens and the public open their hearts again to the People Power Party. I urge Party Leader Donghyuk Jang, as party leader, to take responsibility and restore a fair primary process. If the primary proceeds as it stands now, the anger of Daegu citizens will be directed not at the Democratic Party, but at the People Power Party itself," she warned.
