Preliminary Candidate Seungwon Park Wins Democratic Party Primary in Landslide, Advances to General Election Without Runoff

In the Democratic Party of Korea primary for Gwangmyeong mayor, preliminary candidate Seungwon Park was elected as the final candidate without a runoff, having secured a majority of the votes.

Seungwon Park stated that this primary was particularly meaningful, as it allowed his verified administrative abilities, consistent adherence to the values of the Democratic Party, and the achievements made together with Gwangmyeong citizens to be evaluated once again.

Immediately after the primary results, Seungwon Park expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply thank the people of Gwangmyeong and fellow Democratic Party members for your choice." He continued, "This victory is not a personal victory for me, Seungwon Park, but rather a result of the trust in the changes we have made in Gwangmyeong together with citizens and in the achievements of the Democratic Party's local government."

He added, "At this crucial time, when redevelopment and reconstruction, transportation innovation, and the establishment of a foundation for future industries are progressing simultaneously, I solemnly accept the responsibility entrusted to me as the person chosen to see these through to the end."

Seungwon Park also expressed his appreciation to the other candidates who participated in the primary. He said, "I believe that, above all, our hearts for Gwangmyeong were the same," and added, "I will respect and cherish the intentions of all the candidates who competed in this primary." He continued, "Now, the Democratic Party must unite as one team. The victory in Gwangmyeong is the victory of Gyeonggi Province, and it will become a solid driving force for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration. I will prepare for the general election with greater humility and earnestness."

During the primary process, Seungwon Park emphasized that, based on the city’s core achievements in areas such as civic sovereignty, livelihood economy, lifelong learning, carbon neutrality, social solidarity economy, and basic social services, the next four years for Gwangmyeong require verified responsibility and the execution capabilities of a competent local government, rather than new slogans.

In particular, Seungwon Park highlighted his political consistency-never deviating from the values of the Democratic Party throughout his career as a city council member, provincial assembly member, and mayor. He also emphasized his experience of aligning policy philosophies and administrative pace with Governor Lee Jaemyung, underscoring that he is a capable local government leader who can most effectively work in concert with the Lee Jaemyung administration.

Looking ahead to the general election, Seungwon Park plans to advance Gwangmyeong’s future vision by focusing on: Gwangmyeong as a future global cultural capital; an economic hub where businesses and people gather; safe and balanced urban growth; the completion of a pleasant metropolitan transportation system; Gwangmyeong as the leading city for basic social services nationwide; and a sustainable city where people and nature coexist.

Seungwon Park stated, "The changes in Gwangmyeong are not over yet," and vowed, "Through actions rather than words, through achievements rather than promises, I will complete the next stage of Gwangmyeong together with its citizens."
