Oh Sehoon: "President Lee Clashes with Israel... Unnecessary Diplomatic Conflict"

"Democratic Party Tries to Cover Up With Praise for Lee"
"Absurdly Framing It as 'Pragmatic Diplomacy'"
Aimed at Jeong Wonoh: "Will Only Cater to the President's Wishes"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon recently commented on President Lee Jaemyung’s public criticism of the Israeli government on social media (SNS), stating that it “has caused unnecessary diplomatic conflict.”

On April 14, Mayor Oh posted on Facebook under the title “The Last Bastion to Keep the Lee Jaemyung Administration in Check: No Need for a Presidential Sentiment Guard,” criticizing, “Watching the Democratic Party try to cover up President Lee Jaemyung’s major SNS blunder by singing his praises makes it seem this administration is also heading toward its own downfall.”

He particularly pointed out, “In the midst of an unstable international situation due to the war in the Middle East, the president’s careless remarks, which have caused unnecessary diplomatic conflict, deserve criticism regardless of political affiliation. Even engaging in a public clash with Israel, one of the parties to the war, only deepens the worries of citizens who are already anxious.”

He continued, “If, as the ruling party, you cannot openly criticize the president, it would at least be better to remain silent. However, the Democratic Party’s actions are so embarrassing that they are hard to watch.” He added, “It is absurd to suddenly wrap this up as ‘pragmatic diplomacy’-do they really think the public will accept such sophistry? If a mistake was made, it should be addressed, but seeing President Lee Jaemyung double down out of pride shows that there is not a single person around him to rein him in.”

Mayor Oh emphasized, “Witnessing this reality makes it even clearer why we absolutely must protect Seoul. The Democratic Party is forcing Seoul City to obey the central government, which is an extremely authoritarian mindset that ignores the fundamental principles of autonomy and balance in local government administration.”

He also sent a message aimed at Jeong Wonoh, the Democratic Party’s candidate for Seoul mayor. Mayor Oh stated, “A Seoul City that simply follows instructions from the central government one by one will never be able to protect the rights and interests of its citizens, nor is it right for the nation. A Seoul mayor who cares more about the president’s opinion than the citizens’ is worse than having no mayor at all. Especially if someone becomes a candidate thanks to the president’s public support, the Seoul mayoralty would be reduced to the level of a presidential sentiment guard.”

This is interpreted as a criticism of candidate Jeong for naming his campaign “ChakChak Camp” and promoting himself as the Seoul mayoral candidate who will work in close coordination with the Lee Jaemyung administration.
