Busan Gijang County Urban Management Corporation (Chairman Kim Yunjae) is expanding its achievements in driving local consumption through a "stay-type sports economic model" that utilizes sports infrastructure.
During the 2026 winter season (January to March), the corporation attracted a total of 137 teams and 3,260 participants for training camps and competitions, marking an increase compared to the previous year.
This season saw a series of nationwide competitions, including the 1st Korea Little Baseball Federation President’s Cup National Little Baseball Tournament with 53 participating teams, the 57th Busan MBC National High School Soccer Tournament featuring 42 high school teams, the Gijang County Governor’s Cup Youth Baseball Tournament with 19 teams, and the Prestigious High School Baseball Competition with 12 teams. In addition, the attraction of soccer and baseball teams for training camps in the form of a winter league further boosted the regional economic impact, which is estimated to exceed 2.7 billion won.
In particular, the visit of the KT Wiz Futures baseball team for training camp stands out as an example of mutual growth with the local community. The corporation used this opportunity to organize teaching classes for local youth baseball teams and also carried out talent donation activities, including the donation of 2,500 baseballs.
The corporation is encouraging teams to stay longer by offering incentives such as reduced sports facility rental fees when using local accommodations. As a result, a virtuous cycle has been established, with spending flowing into local industries such as lodging and food service businesses.
Chairman Kim Yunjae stated, "The existing stay-type sports operation model has been further expanded this season, producing positive effects on the local economy," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the structure of strategic linkage between training camps and competitions, ensuring shared growth with local businesses."
