A vibrant pink azalea festival will unfold on Hwangmaesan Mountain. Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on April 14 that the "30th Hwangmaesan Azalea Festival" will be held for ten days, from May 1 to May 10, at Hwangmaesan County Park.
This year's festival aims to widely promote the charm of Hwangmaesan, a leading spring tourist destination, by offering performances, hands-on experiences, and participatory programs against the backdrop of the nation’s largest azalea habitat.
On the first day of the festival, May 1, a pre-event performance and an azalea ritual will be held to mark the official opening of the festivities. During the festival, various performances, including fusion Korean music, trot, and electric violin, will take place on weekends and public holidays.
There will also be programs in which visitors can directly participate. Activities such as a treasure hunt event, sharing cart tours, and a stamp tour will be available, offering enjoyable experiences for families and day-trippers alike.
The Hwangmaesan azaleas usually reach their peak bloom in the first week of May, and this year is expected to be no different. However, since the blooming period may vary depending on weather conditions, visitors are advised to check the blooming status on the Hwangmaesan County Park website before visiting.
Jang Jae-hyuk, Deputy Governor of Hapcheon County, said, "Many people were disappointed by frequent rain last year," and added, "I hope everyone can create precious memories in the mountain’s vibrant pink garden this year."
Meanwhile, to enhance access to the festival site, the county plans to operate shuttle buses between Deokman Parking Lot and Eunhaengnamu Parking Lot on April 25 and 26, from May 1 to 10, and on May 16 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, on-site management will be strengthened to minimize traffic congestion.
