Choi Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will meet with film industry figures at Indieground in Jung-gu, Seoul at 2 p.m. on April 14 to exchange opinions on the recovery of the Korean film industry.

This meeting comes in response to a press conference by the film industry and a joint statement from film distributors earlier this month. Participants will include Kim Byung-in, President of the Korea Scenario Writers Association; Director Yang Woo-suk; Lee Eun, President of the Korean Film Producers Association; Lee Hwa-bae, Representative of the Distributors Solidarity; and Choi Nak-yong, President of the Korea Arthouse Cinema Association.

The Ministry will listen to the film industry's views on the abolition of the holdback period (the grace period between theatrical release and distribution through other channels such as OTT), the introduction of a screen concentration limitation system, the expansion of minimum screening days, and the expansion of policy funds.

The Ministry will also share details of the expanded support for the film sector, funded through the first supplementary budget. The supplementary budget totals 65.6 billion won, including an increase of 26 billion won for mid-budget film production support, 4.5 billion won for independent and art film production support, 8 billion won for intensive support for advanced production of Korean films, and 27.1 billion won for promoting moviegoing among the public.

Minister Choi said, "I hope this will be an opportunity for many films to be produced and for the public to have greater opportunities to enjoy them."
