On April 14, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it held the "2nd Roundtable on Rationalizing Telemedicine Regulations" in Osong, North Chungcheong Province.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea Startup Forum, the Korea Venture Business Association, as well as telemedicine startups and officials from the Korea Startup Promotion Agency.

This meeting was a follow-up to the "Telemedicine Roundtable Kickoff Meeting" held in February. Based on feedback collected from the startup community at the previous meeting, the session aimed to discuss in more detail the appropriate level of regulation for delegated matters (such as standards and requirements) under the revised subordinate legislation of the Medical Service Act, which was amended in December of last year.

During the meeting, participants discussed key issues set to be addressed by December through subordinate legislation delegated by the Medical Service Act, including limitations on the number of days and types of prescription drugs, restrictions on the proportion of telemedicine, and the scope of patients eligible for telemedicine outside the same region, all based on feedback gathered from startups. In addition, other policy suggestions related to telemedicine from startups were also heard.

Cho Kyungwon, Director of Startup Policy, stated, "The telemedicine system is an area that must be designed with both public access to healthcare and industrial growth potential in mind," and added, "We will focus on gathering diverse field opinions through June and deliver them to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, striving to help establish a reasonable system."
