Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Institute has launched a new group of university student supporters to promote the value of the Korean language and preserve local dialects.
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on April 14 that its Korean Language and Culture Institute held the "12th Busan Language Guardians Launch Ceremony" on April 12 at the College of Humanities on the Seunghak Campus.
The event began with the awarding of appointment certificates to the 12th class of Language Guardians, followed by an introduction to the group's activities and a briefing on the "King Sejong's Birthday" week events.
The “Language Guardians” is a university student volunteer organization hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Language and Culture Institute Association. It operates in club format at 13 regional Korean Language and Culture Institutes nationwide. In Busan, the Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Institute has taken the lead in spreading awareness and love of the Korean language since 2015.
The newly selected 51 members of the 12th class will be divided into four specialized teams: "Language Protectors," working to improve public language; "Language Promoters," raising awareness of pure Korean words and correct spelling; "Dialect Preservers," researching and preserving the Busan dialect; and "Online Promoters," responsible for promotion through social media. Each team will carry out systematic activities in their respective areas.
Baek Kyungho, a third-year student in the Department of Korean Language and Literature, who was chosen as the representative of the 12th class, stated, "As the representative, I will take responsibility and work with the members to create meaningful activities."
The Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Institute and the Language Guardians are preparing both online and offline events to celebrate "King Sejong's Birthday" (May 15). They plan to widely promote the beauty of the Korean language through non-face-to-face programs such as "Korean Acrostic Poems in Bloom," as well as citizen participation events like "King Sejong's Busan Outing."
The Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Center is holding the launching ceremony for the 12th class of "Busan Uri Mal Gakkeumi".
