Coway Holds 5th EM Soil Ball Throwing Volunteer Activity

Contributing to Water Quality Improvement in the Local Community

Coway announced on April 14 that it held the "5th EM Soil Ball Throwing Volunteer Activity" on April 10 as part of its eco-friendly ESG campaign.

EM (Effective Microorganisms) soil balls are eco-friendly purification agents made by kneading and fermenting a solution of beneficial microorganisms with red clay. When thrown into rivers or streams, they gradually dissolve, helping to purify water and reduce odors. Restoring river and stream ecosystems also helps decrease atmospheric carbon dioxide.

This volunteer activity took place at Anyangcheon, near Coway's headquarters, and was attended by Coway employees and volunteers. Participants made and donated 3,000 EM soil balls at Anyangcheon Multipurpose Square, and 1,500 of the pre-fermented balls were used in water purification efforts by being thrown into the stream.

Marking its fifth year, the "EM Soil Ball Throwing Volunteer Activity" has so far resulted in Coway creating and deploying a cumulative total of 16,000 soil balls into streams, contributing to the restoration of local ecosystems.

A Coway representative said, "This volunteer activity was organized so that employees could directly participate in local environmental protection efforts and understand the importance of water quality improvement. We will continue to contribute to building a sustainable environment through various eco-friendly activities with the local community."
