KOSPI Posts Over 2% Intraday Gain on Strong Foreign Buying

The KOSPI is showing a strong intraday gain of more than 2%, buoyed by net buying from foreign investors.


As of 9:36 a.m. on April 14, the KOSPI was trading at 5,966.88, up 2.77% from the previous day.


By investor type, institutional investors and individual investors are recording net sales of 25.3 billion won and 128.9 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors are making net purchases of 107.9 billion won. In the futures market, institutional investors are net selling 391.3 billion won, while foreign investors and individual investors are net buying 128.8 billion won and 250.7 billion won, respectively.


By sector, securities are up 7.67%, telecommunications 4.27%, electrical and electronics 4.03%, utilities (electricity and gas) 3.31%, financials 3.08%, manufacturing 3.06%, insurance 2.74%, IT services 2.68%, medical precision 2.22%, transportation equipment 1.67%, machinery and equipment 1.31%, textiles and apparel 1.41%, transportation and storage 0.82%, distribution 0.9%, and pharmaceuticals 0.72%. On the other hand, paper and wood are down 1.77%, and the construction and real estate sectors are also weak.


Most of the large-cap stocks by market capitalization are also strong. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are up 3.23% and 6.54%, respectively; Hyundai Motor 3.66%; LG Energy Solution 0.12%; SK Square 6.9%; Doosan Enerbility 1.01%; Kia 2.24%; KB Financial Group 0.7%; HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 1.4%; Samsung Life Insurance 3.18%; and Samsung C&T 2.25%. In contrast, Hanwha Aerospace is down 2.16%, and Samsung Biologics is also trading slightly lower.


The KOSDAQ index is also posting a strong gain of over 2%. The KOSDAQ is trading at 1,122.7, up 2.08% from the previous day. By investor type, institutional investors and foreign investors are net selling 13.5 billion won and 45.3 billion won, respectively, while individual investors are net buying 40.9 billion won.


Most of the large-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ are also strong. Ecopro and Ecopro BM are up 1.88% and 1.13%, respectively; Alteogen 1.7%; Rainbow Robotics 2.39%; ABL Bio 1.87%; HLB 8.06%; Kolon TissueGene 0.85%; LegoChem Biosciences 1.54%; Peptron 3.85%; and EO Technics 0.2%. On the other hand, Samchundang Pharm is down 0.76%, and Lino Corp. is also down 1.68%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,479.8 won, down 2.9 won from the previous day.
