The sibling duo AKMU has surpassed a cumulative 2.5 billion streams on the Korean music platform Melon, marking the highest total among mixed-gender artists on the platform.
On April 14, Melon, operated by Kakao Entertainment, announced through its music big data analysis content, Datalab, that AKMU has reached a total of 2,536,170,000 streams since their debut in 2014. This is the highest record among mixed-gender artists on Melon.
AKMU has a total of seven songs that have each recorded over 100 million streams. Only 17 teams among all artists have achieved this milestone. The song with the highest number of streams is "How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You're the One I Love," which has reached 448,390,000 streams.
This song has entered Melon's daily chart for 1,046 consecutive days, ranking 15th in the platform's history. It gained attention when Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Han Kang recommended it and appeared on the annual chart for seven consecutive years. The cumulative number of "likes" stands at 494,000, the second highest on Melon after BTS's "Spring Day."
"Love Lee," released last year, ranked No. 1 on the daily chart a total of 60 times. On April 7, AKMU released their fourth full-length album, "The Beginning," and the title track "Joy, Sorrow, Beautiful Mind" once again topped the charts.
The debut album "Play" and "Sailing" were selected as Melon Masterpieces. AKMU has been recognized for their artistry, winning multiple awards at the Korean Music Awards, including Best Pop Album and Song of the Year.
Chanhyuk Lee has recorded a cumulative 70.71 million streams, while Suhyun Lee has reached 82.43 million. The combined streaming total for the individual activities of the two members amounts to 153.14 million.
Melon explained, "AKMU is an artist who has achieved both popular success and high critical acclaim, with both members shining in their individual activities as well."
