Daejeon Bread, Kalguksu, and Dubu Duruchigi have been designated as the "Top 3 Flavors of Daejeon."

On April 10, the Daejeon Metropolitan Government held the "2026 1st Daejeon Signature Cuisine Development Committee" meeting, where it selected the "Top 3 Flavors of Daejeon" and announced plans to actively pursue the development of culinary tourism content as well as promotion and marketing strategies.

The city had previously designated the "Six Delicacies of Daejeon"-namely, Sutgol Naengmyeon, Gujeuk Acorn Jelly, Daecheongho Spicy Freshwater Fish Stew, Samgyetang, Stone Pot Rice, and Seolleongtang-26 years ago, in 2000.

This reorganization aims to update the signature food system to reflect changing dining trends and citizens' preferences. The city, incorporating expert advice and the results of a citizen survey, identified 11 candidates including the original six dishes, and proceeded with the selection process.

According to the results of an online and offline survey in which over 4,300 people participated, Daejeon Bread, Kalguksu, and Dubu Duruchigi all ranked at the top. The top three dishes solidified their status as representative foods by achieving a high percentage of votes-68% online and 81% offline.

Based on the citizen preference survey, the brand name "Flavors of Daejeon" was ultimately selected with 61% support. The number of signature dishes was set at three, taking into account brand focus and development efficiency.

The committee decided to gradually expand the food branding system, including the recent selection of the top three, by discovering additional dishes that "Daejeon citizens love" in the future.

Choi Donggyu, Director General of Sports and Health at Daejeon Metropolitan Government, stated, "We moved away from the previous approach that relied solely on expert judgment and selected the representative foods based on citizen participation," adding, "We will systematically develop the 'Flavors of Daejeon' brand, centered on Daejeon Bread, Kalguksu, and Dubu Duruchigi."
