First, now in its sixth year, the Ga (Family), Na (NA), and Da (Multi) Puppet Theater Troupe project is designed to help migrant women adapt smoothly to Korean society. It consists of educational programs for healthy parenting and marriage, sessions on planning the future for oneself and one’s family, and a training program for the “Saekdong Namu” puppet troupe, which introduces diverse cultures through puppet shows.
In particular, the “Saekdong Namu” puppet troupe, led by multicultural migrant women, presents cultural content that depicts the process of these women beautifully integrating into Korean society. It has become a model for multicultural family support programs.
To date, the troupe has held a total of 792 performances, reaching 21,541 citizens. Its achievements have been recognized externally, winning the Grand Prize for Multicultural Volunteerism at the 2023 Multicultural Future Awards, the Grand Prize for Multicultural Support at the 2023 Gachon Filial Piety Awards, and the Excellence Award at the 2025 Jeonnam Multicultural Culture and Arts Competition.
The HONECO project is a program launched by Gwangyang Steelworks last year to support the social settlement of migrant women. It consists of a family choir to improve Korean language proficiency among migrant women and dance activities designed to encourage cultural exchange between multicultural families and local residents.
By forming the family choir, the program connects Korean and multinational music, providing opportunities to enhance mutual understanding of different cultures. The dance activities serve as a foundation for interaction between multicultural families and citizens, and are also expected to offer emotional support and improve physical abilities for children.
In particular, regular performances and promotional activities through various media outlets are planned to further foster a sense of social belonging among multicultural families.
Park Jongil, Deputy Head of Administration at Gwangyang Steelworks, stated, “The number of multicultural families has been increasing every year, and there is a growing need for support policies that facilitate cultural integration and stable settlement. Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to provide interest and support to ensure that various projects for the happiness of multicultural families can be maintained in the future.”
